On March 14, 1998, a 20-year-old from Berati, Albania named Stelios Spaiou fell off the cliff at the edge of the caldera. Fortunately, he survived, despite the great danger of the fall. Wanting to thank Saint George for this, his family set up a memorial plaque on that spot as a tribute.
