The Koutsoyannopoulos Winery and Museum is the only wine museum in an underground cave in Greece. In a labyrinth shape 8 meters below ground and 300 meters long, it presents the history of wine and the life of the Santorini viticulturist from 1660 to 1970. Its creation took 21 years of hard work with patience, perseverance, and funding entirely by the Koutsoyannopoulos family. Visitors browse through the history of wine with an automatic personal electronic tour that is available in fourteen languages. In the museum, the steps in winemaking are presented in chronological order: pruning, plowing the ground, harvesting, pressing and weighing the grapes. The rare exhibits, machinery, and tools of winemaking will take the visitor back to a bygone era.
