Description

The church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary (Eisodia tis Theotoku, also known as the Great Virgin Mary, or Panagia Trani) dominates the center of the village in Megalochori with its sculpted white bell tower. It has an exquisitely carved wooden icon screen and old Russian icons from Odessa, and the ornate post-Byzantine calendar with 365 miniature saints, one for each day of the year, also stands out. The heavy wooden door of the church was fashioned at the expense of a faithful daughter in memory of her father in 1886. The church was restored and extended in 1931. There has been a church on this site since 1600.
