Description

The small harbor of Fira is 900 feet below the city of Fira and just below the caldera. 587 cobblestone steps wind their way up the cliffside. The harbor is the destination of big cruise ships from which a large number of tourists disembark daily. They ascend to Fira with either the traditional donkeys or the cable car. Excursion boats to Oia and to the islands of Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni, and Thirasia also set off from this harbor. There are cafés, souvenir shops, and tavernas along the pier.
